Of all the The Three Amigos, Sir Blair has had more experience in riding lessons than the other two combined. Over the years, he has taught hundreds of children (and even some adults) how to ride.
With all that experience, he has put together a helpful list of good horsemanship. As Sir Blair says with a chuckle: "It is all a matter of good horse sense!"
Sir Blair's Tips For Good Horsemanship
- Be Patient with yourself and the horse.
- Don't pull too tight on the reins, the bit can hurt
- Give your horse a pat now and then; your horse will appreciate the attention
- Stay focused, the horse needs to know where you want to go at all times
- Remember it is a team effort between you and the horse so make sure you work together.
- Don't forget the horse has feelings just like you do, so be kind at all times.
- Bring a carrot for a reward at the end of the ride. Horses like treats just like you!
Above all, have FUN and your horse will too!
